The Law Institute of Lithuania is a research establishment, founded in 1991 by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania seeking to coordinate the reform of the legal system and law institutions, to combine it with the economic and social reorganization carried in the country. The founder of the Institute is the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania.
\nBy Resolution No. 1495 \u201cOn the establishment of the Law Institute of Lithuania\u201d of 5 December 2012, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania amended Resolution No. 484 \u201cOn the establishment of the Law Institute\u201d of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania of 23 November 1991, whereby it passed a decision to reorganise the then functioning state science institution Law Institute and establish the state research institute, i.e. the Law Institute of Lithuania.
By Resolution No. 1260 of 11 November 2020, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania decided to reorganise the Lithuanian Social Research Centre, the Law Institute of Lithuania, and the Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics by merging them into the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences (LCSS). As of 1 January 2021, the Law Institute became a branch of the LCSS.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The main aims of the Institute are to contribute: to the formation of the scientific basis for the reform of the Lithuanian law and legal system as well as its separate elements based on the national experience and the advantages of the European Law development; to contribute to the safeguarding of human rights and freedoms by elaborating national scientific studies as well as applied scientific researches in the field of law and legal system; to the formation of favorable conditions for business by means of legal measures. Nuo 2021 m. sausio 1 d. Teis\u0117s institutas tapo LSMC filialu. Pagrindiniai Instituto veiklos tikslai yra prisid\u0117ti formuojant nacionaline patirtimi ir europin\u0117s teis\u0117s raidos pasiekimais pagr\u012fstus Lietuvos teis\u0117s bei teisin\u0117s sistemos reformos mokslinius pagrindus bei atskirus \u0161ios sistemos elementus, tobulinant valstyb\u0117s mokslinius tyrimus ir taikomuosius mokslin\u0117s pl\u0117tros tyrimus teis\u0117s bei teisin\u0117s sistemos srityje, prisid\u0117ti u\u017etikrinant \u017emogaus teisi\u0173 ir laisvi\u0173 apsaug\u0105 bei teisin\u0117mis priemon\u0117mis sudarant palanki\u0105 aplink\u0105 verslui. Pagrindin\u0117s Teis\u0117s instituto mokslini\u0173 interes\u0173 kryptys: vie\u0161oji teis\u0117 (daugiausiai d\u0117mesio skiriant konstitucin\u0117s teis\u0117s ir baud\u017eiamosios justicijos problemoms) ir kriminologija (daugiausiai d\u0117mesio skiriant vaik\u0173 ir jaunimo teis\u0117s problemoms).
