(English) The Mandated Body Status of the Law Institute of Lithuania Has Been Approved

[:en]

On 11 November 2020, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania decided to reorganise the Law Institute of Lithuania from 1 January 2021 by merging it with two other state institutes of social sciences into the Lithuanian Centre of Social Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Centre); therefore, the newly established branch of the Centre – the Law Institute (hereinafter referred to as the LCSS LI or the Institute) – had to be re-accredited and obtain the status of the full mandated body. The latter enables the LCSS LI to compete in the international arena and to cooperate with foreign institutions in the development cooperation projects of the Twinning Programme of the European Union (hereinafter – the EU) by implementing social innovations and experimental research activities.

We are pleased to announce that on 27 January 2021 the Twinning Coordination Team of Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) has released a confirmation, granting the mandated body status to the LCSS LI. Based on this fact, the Institute was included in the List of Mandated Bodies of the Twining Manual Revision 2017, which is available here.

LCSS LI together with its partners have successfully accomplished four EU Twinning projects since 2015 – in this way it contributed to the implementation of the foreign policy priorities led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, and international commitments in the areas of development cooperation, democracy support and justice. In the aforementioned context, it is worth to notice that the Institute together with the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania, Vilnius University Faculty of Law, the European Social Fund Agency and the Austrian Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights are currently implementing the project “Strengthening the Capacity of State Bodies and Local Level Referral Mechanisms to Provide Safety and Support to Victims of Domestic Violence in Azerbaijan” (No. AZ/16/ENI/JH/01/19 (55), which is funded under the Twinning programme.
