Experience of combating manipulation in sports competitions in Europe and Lithuania: theoretical, comparative legal and criminological aspects
The dissertation aims not only to evaluate the commendable initiatives implemented in Lithuania and to critically examine the preventive measures that are still lacking, but also to identify and present best practices applied in foreign countries, with the purpose of drawing lessons from them. The dissertation will also draw attention to the attitude of European gambling regulators towards certain aspects related to the manipulation of sports competitions. The research will analyse the role played by gambling regulatory authorities in selected European countries in contributing to the fight against the manipulation of sporting events. It also seeks to present the views of representatives of certain sports-related organizations regarding the problem of manipulation in sports competitions, their assessment of the existing prevention measures in Lithuania and the prospects they foresee for improving prevention in this area. To conduct the outlined research, the study will employ, among other methodology, the inductive method. Semi-structured interviews will be carried out with experts from both the public and private sectors who specialise in issues related to the manipulation of sports competitions.
