Konferencijos „Emerging law enforcement technologies and society“ akimirkos

On May 29 "Emerging law enforcement technologies and society" conference was held. During the conference, two projects were presented - DARLENE and project of LCSS researchers team Faces-AI.

The conference was attended by law enforcement institutions, representatives of the academic community, IT specialists, human rights and protection organizations.

A book chapter written by Dr Agnė Limante, Senior Research Fellow at the Law Institute of the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences, and Kristina Pranevičienė, lecturer at the Law Faculty of Vilnius University, has been published in the Balkan Yearbook of European and International Law published by the prestigious publishing house "Springer".

The chapter "Division of Property Between Spouses in Lithuania: From Substantive to Private International Law" focuses on the division of matrimonial property between spouses in national and private international law of Lithuania. Analysing the case law, the authors discuss the peculiarities of property division between spouses in Lithuania and disclose the challenging application of national private international law in more complicated cross-border situations.

Europos kriminologų draugijos Bendruomeninių bausmių ir priemonių darbo grupės mokslininkų konferencija

The European Society of Criminology's Community Sanctions and Measures (CSM) Working Group Research Conference was held from April 20-21, 2023. The conference was organized by the Law Institute of the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences (LCSS), with Dr. Simonas Nikartas serving as project leader, as well as the CSM working group and the Faculty of Philosophy of Vilnius University.

Researchers from the working group and Lithuanian criminologists presented their latest studies related to community punishment sanctions and measures. The CSM Working Group members also discussed their future plans and cooperation in future research projects.

The conference was funded by the Research Council of Lithuania and aimed to promote the dissemination of Lithuanian criminological science and strengthen international relations among Lithuanian criminologists.

Kviečiame į tarptautinę konferenciją „Emerging law enforcement technologies and society“

We kindly invite you to 2023. May 29 the upcoming international conference „Emerging law enforcement technologies and society“ that will take place in Vilnius. The Lithuanian Police, Trilateral Research, and the Centre for IT & IP Law – KUL from the EU Horizon 2020 project DARLENE, together with the project FACES-AI, implemented by the Law Institute of the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences.

The conference will feature project presentations and discussions surrounding the societal impact of emerging law enforcement technologies (particularly the ones in the projects, i.e., cutting-edge AI-based augmented reality tools and facial recognition technologies) and how to reconcile the deployment of such technologies with properly addressing societal concerns. We expect to cover diverse perspectives among representatives of law enforcement agencies, the academic community, creators of IT applications, human rights and data protection organisations.

Teisės instituto mokslininkai skaitė pranešimus nacionalinėje kriminologų konferencijoje

On March 31, 2023, Vilnius University hosted the conference „Punishment in Labyrinths: Needs, Searches, Solutions“ organized by the Association of Lithuanian Criminologists and Vilnius University. Scientists, practitioners and representatives of public organizations gave presentations at the conference. Reports were also presented by researchers from the Law Institute of the Lithuanian Center for Social Sciences.

Researcher Dr. Mindaugas Lankauskas presented report about the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden (drugs) and, also, religion.

Senior researcher Dr. Rūta Vaičiūnienė together with her colleagues Vaidas Viršilas (Lithuanian Probation Service) and Ilona Michailovič (Vilnius University) gave a presentation on the topic „The need and possibilities of individualized work with persons who have been violent in the close environment“.

In his report, senior researcher Dr. Skirmantas Bikelis looked at the similarities between trying to solve problems with criminalization, harsh punishment, and using alcohol while dealing with difficulties, the institute's senior researcher, Dr. Salomeja Zaksaitė discussed the #MeToo movement in sports.

We kindly invite you to the upcoming international annual conference “European And National Criminal Policy Trends And Challenges” on 2023 April 28, which is organized by the LCSS Institute of Law, the Faculty of Law of Vytautas Magnus University and the Mykolas Romeris University School of Law. The focus of this conference is modern criminal policy trends in European Union law and innovative criminal policy decisions in Lithuania and other European states. Also their evaluations in the practice of the European Court of Human Rights and in recent scientific discussions.

Garsi Europos tarptautinės privatinės teisės asociacija EAPIL pristato Teisės instituto vykdomo projekto rezultatus

The widely known European Association of Private International Law EAPIL paid special attention on its website to the scientific publications of the EU-FamPro project carried out by the Institute of Law.

In order to inform about relevant books in the field of private international law, EAPIL presents three scientific books, that were published during the execution of EU-FamPro project.

The first book edited by L. Ruggeri, A. Limantė and N. Pogorelčnik Vogrinc is "The EU Regulations on Matrimonial Property and Property of Registered Partnerships". In 2022 the book was published by the internationally recognized publishing house "Intersentia". The electronic version of the book can be downloaded from the publishers website. It is necessary to emphasize that this book is also translated into five languages – Lithuanian, Italian, Spanish, Slovenian and Croatian versions of the can be downloaded from the EU-FamPro project website.

The second book, edited by L. Ruggeri and M. J. Cazorla Gonzáles - “Cross-Border Couples Property Regimes in Action Before Courts. Understanding the EU Regulations 1103 and 1104/2016 in Practice“. In 2022 the book was published by Dykinson, a Spanish publishing house. The book can be downloaded free of charge from the publishers website.

The third book "European Family Property Relations Article by Article. Commentary on EU Regulations 1103 and 1104/2016" is edited by L. Ruggeri and R. Garetto. In 2021 this commentary on the regulations was published by the Italian publishing house Edizioni Scientifiche Italiane. The book can be downloaded by visiting publishers website.
