CORRUPT LEGAL ENTITIES AND SEIZURES: INTERNATIONAL AND NATIONAL PERSPECTIVES

Research Council of Lithuania according to “Operational Programme for the European Union Funds’ Investments in 2014–2020” activity “Development of Students' Abilities to conduct R&D Activities” has funded the Law Institute of Lithuanian research “Corruption of Legal Entities and Seizures: International and National Perspectives”. It was executed by a student Rasa Tirilytė-Zelenina under the guidance of dr. Skirmantas Bikelis.

The sub-activity “Research carried by students outside study hours (Student Research)” of activity “Development of Students' Abilities to conduct R&D Activities” is a specific student research program conducted during the fall and spring semesters, under the guidance of a research supervisor.

The objective of the project is to investigate through criminological (origin of asset) aspects models ant contexts of involvement of legal entities in political corruption, to summarize relevant provisions of international anti-corruption conventions and experts' recommendations, to analyze problems of regulation and practical application of legal instruments aimed at confiscation of illegally acquired assets, to explore the content and potential of a newly created legal instrument (civil confiscation) by controlling the manifestations of political corruption involving legal persons.

Analyzing an interdisciplinary and complex problem, the student improved her research skills, deepened her knowledge of the nature of offenses committed by legal persons and the range of measures that could be applied to them and their effectiveness. At the end of the research, the student submitted a text prepared according to the requirements of scientific publications, which included previous analyzes of criminological (origin of asset) and legal aspects and assessment of the international context.
